How To Keep Scorpions Out of Your House

As the weather starts warming up, there may be an increase in scorpions in Georgia. This is because they're drawn out of hibernation by the first hint of spring. However, these arachnids can be found year-round throughout many parts of Georgia due to their ability to hibernate for up to 20 years.

The best way to avoid a scorpion infestation is to stop them from getting inside altogether. Scorpions are "haphazard stowaways" that can crawl into your home through cracks in the wall, open doors, windows, air conditioning units, and other openings. To keep scorpions out of your house, try the following:

  • Clean up because scorpions can be drawn to clutter, so clean any spaces that have a lot of clutter and debris.
  • Remove dust from every corner of your house.
  • Try to maintain the level of humidity in your house as low as possible, as scorpions are very fond of humidity.
  • Seal cracks in your home's foundation with caulk or another sealant. If you already have cracks in your walls or foundation, try filling them with sand or steel wool before sealing them off to prevent scorpions from crawling through the smallest of openings.
  • Repair damaged screens on windows and doors.  Fix any screen doors that may be ripped or torn — this will prevent scorpions from getting inside.
  • Keep an eye out for small holes in walls and floors made by rodents like mice, rats, and squirrels — these small entrances offer easy access for scorpions to get inside.
  • Avoid leaving firewood inside your home because scorpions seem to like living in firewood, so keep it in an out-of-the-way storage area until you need it.

How To Get Rid of Scorpions in Georgia

You are advised not to kill scorpions by yourself unless it is absolutely necessary because their venom will remain active even after death for up to 6 months, thus posing a great danger to animals, humans, etc. If you do need to kill them, use gloves or some other protective gear so that no venom gets spread on your hands or any part of your body.

Scorpions are extremely dangerous and should be dealt with by a pest control expert. If you are located in or around Atlanta, GA, contact TruNorth Pest Control to get rid of any scorpions in your home. Don't risk dealing with these pests yourself, instead, call in the scorpion control experts.
